Biography

Wim Hof grew up in a small town called Sittard, in the Netherlands. From a young age, he's always been interested in different philosophies and other lifestyles, that wasn't considered normal back then.

As a 17-year-old he once walked into a lake and noticed that he wasn't thinking of anything and did not feel the cold on his skin. From that moment on cold water became the thing that made him feel good physically as well as mentally.

He was so amazed as to why he was able to stand in the cold water without feeling it, that he realized that there was much more to the human body than we know.

He went on to train for over 30 years in nature and developed the Wim Hof Method. The 3 pillars of his method are Breathing, Cold therapy, and Commitment. These 3 pillars combined give you a multitude of benefits like a better immune system, increased willpower, and reduced stress levels.

There are lots of theories of how he's managed to do all these extraordinary things in below freezing temperature. For example: climbing Mount Everest to the Death zone point in nothing but shorts. But Wim says that by using his method you can go deep into the body and control your own autonomic nervous system and immune system. And he has scientifically proven it to be true countless times. He believes that we are born with the power to control these aspects ourselves, but we were never taught how to use it in western society.

 

Mentality

Wim Hof is a very passionate speaker who’s a big advocate for (mental) health and the immune system. He believes in the mental power to be in control of your own life instead of always having to rely on other people or medicine to cure you. Believing in yourself and your abilities is the ultimate form of love. And taking care of yourself in a holistic way is love. And what you give to the body, will be returned to you.
